Chapter 71: Decision

The following day, I went to the Demon King’s office, but everyone seemed depressed.
They couldn’t think of any decent ways to defeat the Goddess Kas’uan.

If only I possessed the Shrine Maiden’s power.
Maybe I can make a difference.
Unfortunately, I lack the Shrine Maiden’s power.

Garen laughed as I groaned.

“As Mika’s knight, I shall defend her this time.”

“Thank you.”

But it was my fault that Garen lost sight in his right eye… Is it the only price to pay? I think there are more than just the visible costs of sight.

“Mika?”

I look at Garen, who looks puzzled.

“No, it’s nothing.”

But if Garen is concealing it, I can’t go any farther since Garen has twice saved my life.
I bow my head, and Garen breathes a sigh of relief.

“So, how do we defeat the Goddess Kas’uan?”

The Demon King cut in with a grim expression on his face.

“Does Astoria have anything that can replace the Pearl?”

“…Some have been handed down from generation to generation, but… they are now basic jewelry.”

It has no power, according to Garen.

“I see.”

The Demon King glanced at me, then abruptly averted his gaze… Me? I suppose that has something to do with the Shrine Maiden’s power… Is there a way to reclaim the Shrine Maiden’s power?

“I wish the Shrine Maiden’s power could return.”

I was just murmuring, but my voice came out louder than I expected.

“There’s no way to do that.”

The Demon King spoke this as if he were attempting to conceal something, but it was quickly overshadowed by Yulin’s words, “Brother!”

“Yulin, is there?”

I questioned Yulin since the Demon King seemed unwilling to inform me.
Yulin frowned and looked blank for a while before speaking up as though prepared.

“Your power will be restored if Brother and the Shrine Maiden divorce.”

“Divorce…”

Divorce?! We’ve only been married for a week.
We’re newlyweds!

When I was surprised, Yulin continued.

“However, once divorced, you cannot marry the same person again—in other words, she will never again be the Demon King’s wife.”

That bothers me, but…

I sneak a peek at the Demon King, who has a sour face.

The Demon King is always like this.
As a ruler, he has always prioritized me over everything.
He should have just divorced me, whom he married out of sight, and let the Shrine Maiden reclaim her power.
But the Demon King said there was no way.

What can I do to help?

I close my eyes and exhale deeply.

There’s only one thing I can do now.

“Let’s divorce.”
