Yesterday was a good day.
Bell and Rain completed their errands and we did some planting.
We enjoyed tea and Japanese sweets all at once, so maybe we tasted too much joy, but it was a pretty good day.

This morning, Bell, Rain, Turu (T/N: I think the name is Turu based on the manga so I will go with that from now), and I had a pleasant breakfast of seafood.
I hope to make it possible for the great spirits, who aren’t particularly interested in eating, to have meals with us every day.

I learned yesterday that they might intrude even if I refuse them if I serve good sake, but I’ll keep using its power as a last resort.

Now, what should I do today? Everyone is back, so it’s time to consider launching a raid on the monsters’ nest.

“Oh, Yuta.
Do you have any plans for today?”

“I was thinking of leveling up, but is there something going on?”

“Yes, there is.
We need to make fertilizer by mixing small fish and seaweed.”

I mentioned it before.
It’s the one we sprinkle in the space to grow the forest.

“Oh, that one.
I’ll go right away if it’s urgent, but what should I do?”

“Well, we need a lot of it, so it’s better to move quickly.
Sylphy said she would summon the forest spirits when the seedlings sprout, so we’ll need it soon.”

I said it would take four to five days for the seedlings to sprout.
If they come right away, it means there’s not much time left.
Even if the seedlings sprout, they won’t come if there’s no place to grow the plants.
If that happens, it will be a while before we get fresh vegetables.
I need to put some effort into it.

“How much do we need? I’m not sure how much to prepare because we’ll be using a wide space.”

“Hmm, considering the concentration of the fertilizer we put in the field, at least five times that amount, preferably eight times,” Nomos said.

Wow, can we really go up to eight times? If we stay at a beach house and just keep making fertilizer, maybe we can manage it? But, Bell, Rain, and Turu are already keeping an eye on the seeds we buried.
I want to be back before they sprout.

“If we go now and stay overnight, we can make enough fertilizer, but if Bell, Rain, and Turu come with us, we won’t be able to water the seeds.
It would be a shame if all our hard work was for nothing,” Yuta continued.

“That’s easy.
Just ask Dyne to water them,” Nomos said.

“We didn’t agree to use her powers to help each other,” Yuta objected.

“Use your head more.
We’re not asking for help with watering.
It’s just about Dyne getting in the mood to water the base every day,” Nomos explained.

I see.
But is it okay to use that as an excuse? It seems too childish.
Is it really okay as long as we save face?

“I see.
So as long as Dyne is in the mood to water the base every day, it’s not a problem even if it accidentally waters the field,” Yuta confirmed, glancing at Dyne who was listening to their conversation next to them.
They had to be obvious, as Dyne was quite naive, and might not understand otherwise.

“That’s right.
If Dyne feels like watering the base on her own, then there’s no problem at all,” Nomos agreed, glancing at Dyne with a wry smile.
After a moment, Dyne got up from her seat and sent a ball of water into the air from the nearby spring.
Soon, drops of water rained down on the base.

“Ahh, that’s better.
The Deathly Wasteland is so dry, it’s been bothering me,” Dyne said with her usual airheadedness.
Thank you for understanding the situation.

“The problem may have been solved, but I’m not sure if this is really okay, Nomos?”

“Don’t say rude things.
Your premise is wrong to begin with.
Who other than you can talk to spirits normally? Having a conversation with a spirit that hasn’t made a contract, having tea together.
This situation was never considered.”

I see.
So, it’s a situation where there are many loopholes because the legal framework has not been established properly for this new development, even though it’s not a good thing.

“Wait, if that’s the case, couldn’t we have just shouted, ‘If there are any seeds in the field, please let us know!’ instead of sending Bell and Rain on errands?”

Sending Bell and Rain on errands was quite worrisome and required a lot of determination…I wish I had known about this earlier.

“Seeds are impossible, mate.
If it were a forest spirit, it wouldn’t be unnatural to have seeds, but if a spirit here were to scatter seeds, it would clearly be punishable.
After all, carrying something unrelated to their duties and then scattering it would be unnatural.
What’s important is not deviating from their duties.”

So that’s why Dyne is in charge of watering the plants.
If I had muttered, “I’m worried about the seeds in the field,” without consulting Nomos, would she have watered the field because it was necessary for soil management?

“In that case, if a forest spirit comes, do they have a lot of seeds with them since it’s their territory?”

“Hmm.
If it’s a Great Spirit, it wouldn’t be a burden to carry seeds, so it wouldn’t be strange for them to have them.
It wouldn’t even be a violation.”

That means…the spirit Sylphy has been calling all this time is a Great Spirit, and the forest spirit is probably a Great Spirit too.
A Great Spirit who wouldn’t be strange to have seeds with them.
A land where plants can grow without any issues…maybe just murmuring it could make it happen.

“Hey, what about the penalties? What happens if we violate the rules? Will we be punished?”

“There are penalties.
It’s said that the penalties were established by the gods to prevent powerful spirits from acting recklessly.
Demotion or even disappearance is possible.
After all, it’s a penalty established by the gods, so even avoiding it is impossible.”

It was more intense than I thought.
Disappearance…it’s too scary.

“Well, yeah.
Let’s try not to say anything too unreasonable.”

“Wise words.”

“So, Sylphy.
Is it okay for us to go to the sea to make fertilizer?”

“That’s fine.”

Storing plenty of fresh water to wash small fish and seaweed, I called out to Bell, Rain, and Turu.
“Everyone, let’s go to the sea!”

—-

“We’re at the sea!”

“The sea!”

“Kyu-kyu!”

“…the sea.”

Bell and Rain were excited, and Turu joined in my shout in a slightly embarrassed voice.
By the way, Sylphy was watching calmly, as if saying “It can’t be helped.”

“Now then.
Private Bell, Private Rain, Private Turu.
I’m going to give you your mission.”

“Yessaarrr!”

“Kyukyukyuu.”

“I-yessarr?”

“Member Bell, Member Rain, we need to secure a large number of small fish this time.
Can you do it?”

“Yuta.
Are there a lot of them?”

“When on a mission, address me as Captain.
Got it?”

“Iessaarrr.”

“There are a lot, so do your best.”

“Kyukyukyuu.”

“Okay, let’s go! Member Bell and Member Rain seem to be having fun.
Member Turu looks confused.
I’m sorry Turu, I should have explained more.”

“Yuta, weren’t you supposed to stop this kind of behavior?”

“Sylphy, you’re exasperated.
I understand your feelings very well.”

“I wanted to stop it, but Bell and Rain liked it too much, so I gave up.
It’s like when you throw away your shame as a human, there’s a strange sense of exhilaration, you know?”

“But it’s something important, so you shouldn’t throw away your shame.
Well, it’s probably okay if it’s just us spirits, but be careful when there are humans around.”

“Speaking of which, Sylphy, can I tell the difference between spirits and humans?”

Sylphy looked surprised.
Well, more like, “What is this guy talking about?” kind of expression.

“Well, if they’re floating around all fluffy-like or have an animal form, I can tell.
But you and Dyne are incredibly beautiful women, and I don’t really know the difference between you and humans.
And Nomos looks just like a dwarf from my world, so even if you call him a spirit, I can only say, ‘What’s the difference?'”

“Hey, Yuta, calm down a bit.
You’re saying quite embarrassing things.”

…Yeah, she’s right.
It’s a bit embarrassing.
If Dyne were to hear this, I’d be mortified.

“Ahem.
Well, anyway, even though we can’t judge by appearance, what should we do?”

“Even though you say that, you’re the first person who can see us so clearly that we can’t even distinguish between humans and spirits.
What should we do? …Well, lower-level and middle-level spirits tend to fly around a lot, and higher-level and great spirits are rare, so it should be fine.”

“Is that so? Well, I’ve never seen a human before, so maybe I’ll be able to tell them apart if I go to town.
I’ll try not to take any reckless actions.”

“Yes, that’s good.
Oh, by the way, Yuta, are you not collecting seaweed?”

It seems like they’re trying to change the subject… but it’s also a problem to just leave it all to Turu.

“Yeah, I’ll go get some.”

Turu and I go seaweed harvesting together.
They remove a large rock and pile up the seaweed and small fish.
Then they have Rain wash it with fresh water and lay it out to dry on the rock while continuing to collect more fish and seaweed.
However, breaking the fish’s necks is a bit of a tedious task.

When they collect a certain amount, they ask Bell to use her powers to dry the fish and seaweed with the wind.

It don’t feel like that we are just going through the motions while coming to the sea.
The sea is crystal clear and beautiful, but perhaps we need some beautiful women in swimsuits and food stalls to liven things up.

“Phew.
It’s getting dark, shall we head back to the beach house?”

“We’re not done with our mission yet,” says Turu.

“Kyu.”

“Bell, Rain, we still have work to do tomorrow and the day after.
We need your continued help,” I reply.

“Got it, we’ll help out!” says Bell.

“Kyu.”

“I know it’s tough on you too, Turu, but I’m counting on you,” says Yuta.

“It’s okay,” nods Turu, as Yuta ruffles his hair.
Bell and Rain join in the playfulness and they all get tangled up.
It’s a happy moment.

When they return to the beach house, they start processing the small fish and seaweed.
They wash, chop, and grind it into powder with a mortar and pestle.
They repeat this process for two more days, collecting during the day and processing at night, and eventually succeed in meeting the required quantity.
Doing the same task repeatedly is quite tiring, isn’t it?
