Chapter 1 – Prologue

“Your Highness, Madam has come.”

Elysia, standing in front of the enormous door, swallowed a gulp over and over in order not to tremble.
Meeting the man beyond this was like walking into the tiger’s mouth.

‘But, I’m going to tell you today!’

If she dragged on like this, she never knew when she would be killed.
Even in a reborn life, dying in vain was unacceptable.

Besides, it’s poison!

How painful it is to die that way.
Her body trembled as it felt like her intestines were already on fire.

“Your Highness.”

The man inside the door still didn’t answer.
It was only natural that he had been avoiding her for days.
At some point, Elysia sighed deeply because of the man who came and watched her, but now, she came and he hid instead.

“Damon….”

Despite her call, no words came from within.
She wanted to give up and go today, but she had nowhere else to back down.

Now, the back is a dead end.
There was only going straight for her.

“…I want to see you.”

Squeaak.

Elysia’s eyes widened as the door opened in an instant without notice.
Does this mean to come in? Still, she couldn’t get her feet off right away because she was afraid of Damon, who was going to be inside.

What would she do if a knife flew because she went in at will…? In that case, she would have been better off waiting quietly for him to tell her to come in.

At that moment, the butler opened his mouth as though he was pushing her back.

“Go in, madam.”

“Ah… Thank you, Sebastian.”

It was dark all around the office to the extent that she wondered if it was possible to work in this dark place.
It was doubtful whether the documents would be visible.
If it wasn’t for the sunlight coming through the curtains, she wouldn’t even recognize the man sitting in the middle.

“Da… Damon?”

Standing in the dark room, Elysia’s shoulders shook slightly.
It really felt like striding into the tiger’s den.

“Elysia.”

“Can I turn on the light? Roll up the curtains… ”

It was terrifying to see the blue eyes of a man shining in the dark like the eye of a beast.
It was time she got used to it, but still, when she met those eyes, fear prevailed.

Duke Raphael without blood or tears…

This word was not for nothing.
Damon was the man who could easily kill her even now.

“Ah…!”

Before she could finish her words, she tightly closed her eyes.
Suddenly, the sun shone inside and brightened the surroundings.

“Kyaak—!”

When she pried open her eyes, Elysia stopped screaming at the blue eyes that reached her nose.
Even though the distance was close, it was too close.
They could feel each other’s breath.

She unknowingly took a step back, trying to get away from him.

“Wife.”

Elysia could feel the steps twisting with her hasty back steps and her body moving backward.
If he hadn’t grabbed her back in time, she might have had a concussion before she was poisoned.

“You always have to be careful.
Didn’t I say it every time? Your body is precious.”

“Let me go, let me go.”

“Yes.”

There wasn’t anything strange about Damon’s behavior as he wiped his hands cleanly at the sound of being asked to let go.
Rather, she was the one to thank him.

“Thank you.”

“It was nothing.”

A smile that raises one corner of his lips.
Elysia turned her head at her favorite look of Damon.
Also, she wouldn’t be able to say what she wanted to say because her heart is weak on that face.

There was really no time now.

“Damon, I’m here today…”

“Didn’t you say you wanted to see me?”

“That’s right… Though that’s not the only reason…”

She had to bring up the idea of divorce, but Elysia’s lips did not open.
It wasn’t just that she was scared.
He was horrifyingly her taste.
So, while she knew he was a scary person, she couldn’t get herself to say goodbye to him.

However, she can’t be deceived by that face anymore!

“Shall we have dinner together?”

“Damon, that’s—! Us… Divorce!”

“….”

There was no response to the words she had plucked up with courage.

At that, Elysia’s heart burnt to the ground at the suffocating cold stillness.

“Why? Did I do anything wrong to the wife?”

Damon’s words meant he was at fault.
Divorce was not a given in the Kaeser Empire.
Under Imperial law, divorce was never permitted unless the spouses were seriously at fault.

“No, Damon did nothing wrong.
The fault lies with me.”

“The wife was wrong…?”

“Yes…”

She didn’t want to divorce Damon unless she herself was poisoned.
He was overly handsome, and there was nothing out of taste in every corner.
Even now, when she looks at his face, she is afraid that s
